The Importance of 15 Shaban

Shaban is the 8th month of the Islamic Calendar and an important one. It’s importance can be understood by the fact that Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) has stated that Shaban is the Prophet’s month while Ramadan is the month of Allah.

The most important day in this month is 15th Shaban. On this day, Allah opens the door of mercy and forgives anyone who asks for forgiveness and mercy. It is better to forgive and ask for forgiveness from any person you have offended as Allah will not forgive those people who have hatred for any other person.

15th Shaban is the day when the fortunes of the people for the whole year are written. Who will get wealthy, who will die, and who will perform Hajj is all written on this day. Thus, it is important to ask for forgiveness for our sins and make dua for betterment of our life. There are also some Nafil prayers that should be prayed on this day.

After praying Maghrib prayer, 3 nafil prayers should be prayed in sets of 2 rakats; thus totalling 6 rakats nafil prayers. Before the start of the first nafil prayer, you should make the following dua: “Ya Allah, I’m praying this nafil prayer, please accept it and grant me long life and wealth”. After saying Salam, you should read Surah Yasin or instead you can read Surah Qul Huwa Ahad twenty one times. After reciting either one, you need to make the dua which is attached after 2 paragraphs.

Similarly, before the start of the second nafil prayer, you should make the following dua: “Ya Allah, I’m praying this nafil prayer, please accept it and protect me from calamities”. After saying Salam, you should read Surah Yasin or instead you can read Surah Qul Huwa Ahad twenty one times. After reciting either one, you need to make the dua which is attached after the following paragraph.

And, before the start of the final nafil prayer, you should make the following dua: “Ya Allah, I’m praying this nafil prayer, please accept it and do not make me dependent on anyone else except You”. After saying Salam, you should read Surah Yasin or instead you can read Surah Qul Huwa Ahad twenty one times. After reciting either one, you need to make the dua:

It is beneficial and rewarding to visit the graveyard on this night. Many people visit the graves of their beloved ones and ask Allah to forgive them. Allah is Rehman and Raheem and he will forgive anyone whom He wishes to. One should take this opportunity and ask for forgiveness as much as possible and request Allah to improve our lives.
